Hymn to Chocolate (for the New Lindt Orange Cult)

oh divine cacao bean , oh heavenly milk
whose alchemic union
produced a food like edible silk
oh Aztec’s offering
xocatl most bitter
currency of the wise
who valued the chocolate sheen
over golds glitter
oh scourge of suffering
oh  bringer of joys
you who turn sad women into
skipping girls
and sorrowful men
into happy boys
I sing  your praises
whether
Vishnu brown
Anansi Black
or Baldur white
oh Deity amongst
foods
you who are my mouths delight
the righter of all wrongs
beautifier of life
sweetner of dark days
ones aid through ache and strife
whether served hot in a cup
or softly relenting beneath the knife

how easily you are  worshiped
with grateful tongue and eager bite

For John , Yoko and Sean - 70th Poem

Happy Birthday John (and Sean!)

Blessed be a love

that never truly passed

that took on the worlds woes

as it’s earthly task

blessed be this love

that gave birth to a light

that both warmed the world

and in it beauty did ignite

Blessed be this love

that gave birth to joys so bright

that will forever last

though part of it has gone to join

the unknown dark of an unknown night

1 note

To all those whom I love-69th poem

The human heart is a maze

which can even confuse it’s

master

so Just walk down its winding path

and consider the consequences after

and if you are lost and tired

just recall the easier days of

smiles and laughter

It’ll always get better somehow

even if it isn’t happily ever after

for Nour-68th poem

I wanna know

why things are so

why can’t they be some other way

some other structure , some other pattern

some other other night, some other day

Why can’t I just smash it all together

with a violent love

shape it a little better

perhaps I can someday

but till then I’ll fight and I’ll battle

for right in every conceivable way

For Basil and May-67th poem

This friendship gives me the comfort

of my own skin

You see the good in me beyond my flaws and sins

incubate within me

the frostbitten seedlings of old dreams

that beneath your kindly fingers

quietly grow

How much you truly mean to me

you will never really know

0 notes

for Marwa Rakha -65th poem

So what if all my fantasy loves

are of the half deceased?

I will persist in my belief

that I will be granted my every wish

by a godmother fairy

or an enchanted fish

I believe life and love can be a fairytale

and over the boring and real

I will prevail

0 notes

for Amy and Nayrouz- 64th poem

oh the girls dress very prettily

when they come from Paris

they dance very well

when they come from Seville

at all things sensual

Italian girls do excel

Japanese girls are very sweet

Brazilians in bikinis

have an effect on the head

like free falling concrete

But true connoisseurs know

the finest girls are from Cairo !

for Beebo - 62nd poem

It is a little tricky to

keep recalling the loveliness of your

immortal soul

when there is garbage to be disposed of

bills to be paid and children to both love and control

but it strikes me

than you do it rather well

and my admiration for you

is a thing I cannot quell
